How do you know?

How do you know you are a mum, besides the morning sickness, the hours of labour you endured at the start of your childrens lives, the days you cringe as you realise you have baby vomit on your shirt as you arrive at the shops, the hours you've spent worrying over your child that you have just moved into their own room, the hours spent cleaning up toys, vomit, poop and uneaten food, the immunisation visits, the other doctor visits where you come out thinking that the doctor now thinks you are a complete idiot and/or hypochondriac, and the heart pops when your child is learning something new!?!
You see what daddy has bought for your turning-two year old and you instantly imagine all kinds of accidents and injuries this new 'toy' will create!
Even after a chat about what I deem to be appropriate for a boy turning two, B went out and bought my baby (yep, that's right, he's still my baby and probably will be even when he's 30) this...

I know it doesn't look sinister, it will have some cute Toy Story stickers, and it was an absolute bargain... but really, does a 2yr old require an electric quad bike... or am I being a little bit dramatic? Or is it that I'm just not ready for my baby boy to grow up?

Do I see this little bike (which might I add daddy says will not be driven outside) as another in a long line of milestones that are, just now, beginning to dawn on me? Ones that are fast approaching and will not slow down till I pass into eternity, if at all!?
When did the last 2yrs happen, was I asleep... or maybe a little sleep deprived...(another sign of being a parent)? Do you think Im asking too many questions?

What do you think? Im starting to think, after re-reading my words that perhaps it is a bit of not-wanting-to-let-go-of-my-baby-itis.

  1. I would see this as an opportunity to not have to walk down to Woolies anymore...'Soren, we need some milk please!'...and off he goes!
